For over 24 years, we have strengthened migrants through education, dialogue, and community projects in Switzerland.
Arabic lessons in mother tongue and culture (HSK) complement regular school education. They
promote the first language, provide knowledge about the language region, and strengthen language skills, identity, and integration. Politically and religiously neutral instruction at Dar Al Farah has been recognized by the Canton of Zurich since 2011.
Additional language skills provide advantages in professional life.
Language knowledge fosters contact with family and relatives.
Children and youth deepen their first language in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing.
HSK lessons support school success through more self-confidence and expanded general knowledge.
Children learn more about their heritage culture and reflect on their situation in Switzerland.
This promotes their ability to navigate different life worlds and integrate into Swiss society.
Good language skills facilitate contact with the home country (education, return, career).
Dar Al Farah Arabic lessons are politically and religiously neutral and open to all children of the respective language group.
The number of lessons is legally regulated: up to two lessons per week for kindergarten and 1st grade, from 2nd grade up to three lessons.
The courses are non-profit; tuition fees ensure financing of the lessons.
Lessons take place outside regular school hours, e.g., Saturday mornings or Wednesday afternoons, in public school facilities.
Children's achievements are assessed by HSK teachers and documented in an official certificate from the Swiss Association of Arabic Teachers (VSA).
The class teacher incorporates this grade into the official report card of Zurich public schools, where it is entered with a grade from 1 to 6.
Attendance of HSK courses is officially recognized by most home countries and offers families additional benefits.
Thanks to recognition by the canton, sponsors can use public school rooms free of charge.
Teachers are professionally qualified, have sufficient German skills, and have completed mandatory continuing education from the Cantonal School Office.
All our teachers are trained and dedicated to providing students with a solid knowledge base. Good grades are important, but not everything for success in life. Therefore, we also teach essential values such as responsibility, justice, social action, and respect for others.
The Parents’ Council addresses school-wide topics such as family friendliness, integration, school culture, and teacher relations. It organizes joint projects, parent lectures, intercultural activities, and events such as reading nights, sports day, excursions, and school festivals. It meets four times a year with school management, delegates, and parents to exchange ideas and concerns and regularly holds delegate meetings. Motivated parents wishing to engage in school matters are always welcome.
The "Al Bayan" teaching material targets Arabic-speaking children in heritage language education in Switzerland. It combines systematic language instruction – focusing on vocabulary,
grammar, reading, and listening comprehension – with creative and child-friendly methods such as stories, songs, rhythmic exercises, and playful activities. This creates a holistic learning environment that strengthens both language and cultural competencies and fosters joy in learning.

The playgroup leader is trained in Switzerland and speaks Arabic and German.
Since 2011, Dar Al Farah has offered young people and adults the opportunity to learn Arabic. Our experienced teacher instructs in Modern Standard Arabic and simultaneously introduces the Arabic culture. She has many years of experience in adult education.
At Dar Al Farah, we build bridges between cultures through education, community projects, and integration support, because every connection starts with a conversation.
