Integration Work

Our work for an open society

Building Bridges and Cultural Mediation

We aim to foster trust and understanding and act as mediators between cultures. With our knowledge of Arabic and German as well as our openness, we understand both cultures well. At various events, such as workshops and transcultural trainings, we address topics like family life, similarities and differences, the role of women, traditions, and other important aspects.

Counseling

We provide support with housing, applications, language courses, health issues, school matters, and legal concerns. We accompany both individuals and groups to navigate everyday life, family, and integration together.

Family Support

We offer practical assistance with everyday topics such as school, leisure, culture, and child-rearing, as well as emotional support for families. Thanks to our long-term collaboration with public institutions and authorities, we have a trustworthy foundation and facilitate access to the respective contact persons.

Support for Refugees

We organize events that help refugees become familiar with life in Switzerland, such as insurance, school, work, and apprenticeship searches. We work closely with professionals and authorities, including the city and cantonal police bridge builder, KESB, and BIZ. We also support with administrative matters, everyday questions, and language acquisition.

Awareness against Anti-Muslim Racism

We work to make anti-Muslim racism visible and reduce prejudice. Through encounters, education, and dialogue, we promote respect and peaceful, respectful coexistence.

Projects

Active projects for cohesion and empowerment

Kaffeetasse-

Coffee Cup

"Join us for a working session over morning coffee" We have been practicing this since 2007. At this event, guided by professionals, we discuss everyday topics, challenges, and solutions. Topics range from nutrition, health, and education to the school system and other areas relevant to migrants. This project is supported and accompanied by the Diversity, Integration, and Anti-Racism Office (DIA) of the City of Zurich.

SHABABS

Youth Energy for Tomorrow

Shababs targets young women and men with a migration background (13–25 years) and provides a safe space for exchange and strengthening identity, self-confidence, and social contacts. Participants receive practical information on education, career, health, and social participation. Intercultural exchange reduces prejudice and actively counters discrimination. Groups are led by a social worker, supported by professionals who provide impulses on relevant topics.

Shababs

Lita’arafu

Dar Al Farah runs the project “Lita’rafu – We Get to Know Each Other,” guiding youth from the Arab migrant population in creating simple YouTube videos. They research social topics and explain the Swiss environment to the older Arabic-speaking generation. The project strengthens youth as bridge-builders and provides them with tools for self-expression. Target groups include Arabic-speaking migrants and interested Swiss people. The project is funded by the Integration Office of the Cantonal Justice Directorate of Zurich.

Women Empowerment

We provide Arab migrant women a safe space for exchange, self-confidence building, and social participation. Through workshops, counseling, and communal activities, we promote personal development and empowerment. Women find space to open up, share their burdens, and receive qualified support.

Cultural Exchange Events

Ramadan Expo

The expo offers a valuable platform for encounters and exchange between locals and people with Arab-Islamic backgrounds. Visitors learn about the cultural facets of Ramadan, including
traditional food, clothing, calligraphy, and spiritual and social rituals of the fasting month. This lively presentation promotes mutual understanding, respect, and appreciation, strengthening peaceful coexistence in our community.

Arabesque: Embracing Diversity in Zurich

Arabesque promotes transcultural exchange, reduces prejudice and racism, and strengthens peaceful cohesion. We create a platform for encounters and cultural dialogue that fosters understanding, acceptance, and cultural enrichment, with a special focus on empowering women and fostering an inclusive community.

Solidarity Support

Solidarity means standing up for one another and overcoming challenges together. In our community, we promote mutual assistance, respect, and cohesion to support people in difficult life situations.
